I know there are several questions/how tooz on cam phasers.. I seam to be getting lost in them all. My question is I have a 2004 model and I'm wondering if all years are swappable..It seams Ford has been modifying them several times. The chances of me finding a deal on my exact part number is rare..Will the phasers on a 05,06,07 work on a 04?
Welcome to the forum Johnny Test. I'm surprised no-one answered this too. It's a good question. The first thing I would do is go to a Ford Parts counter, and see if the part numbers are different for the later years. Then maybe someone in the shop would know if you could put them on your '04. I do know that the heads were upgraded in December of '07 to deal with the spark plug issue.
Yeah I do know that all the part #'s are different and they have made so many upgrades to the original phasers. The phasers are hard to find for a 04. My dealer doesnt have them and no parts stores even know what I'm talking about. I have seen them on other sites but they are for other years like a 05 or 06. I need to find out if a 05 or any other will fit my 04. I have a 04 super crew FX4 and it seams like alot of the parts on it are accualy 05 like my rear axle bearings and front hubs are 05. I had problems with it allready..
The 04's and 05's should be swappable because those were the years they had big issues with the cam phasers. I would not try any other year but that would be the route I would take if I could not find one for an 04. I would send a PM to Ed the parts guy or whatever his name is. He is here on the forums and runs some sort of Ford parts store he may be able to tell you better then anyone else.
The dealer should be able to tell you if the parts are interchangeable. I also have a 04 supercrew that is a Job 2 truck built in June 2004. I have the same issue at part stores that my VIN doesn't show up under 2004. I agree that 04 and 05s are almost identical and the 05s should work, but any good dealership can tell you if the new part number superceded the 04 part. Luckily, I had my done under warranty!
Give Ed a try at www.partsguyed.com. You can look your parts up, but the best thing to do is find the contact us portion of the site and email asking what the right part is based on the VIN that you need to supply.
Ed will give you great prices and accurate information about the parts you need.
