Piston Ring compressor
I'm putting my bike engine back together this weekend, and anyone who I would trust to help me is headed for Daytona today.
Anywise I want to get a ring compressor so I can do this job myself. Does anyone have any tips that will help in the use of this tool? I'm not quite sure how they work.

Piston Ring compressor
A ring compressor simply slips over the rings of the piston before you istall it all the way into the bore of the engine. Tighten the compressor and gently tap the piston top with a rubber mallet. It will go down into the bore. Just remember to offset the ring gaps 90 or 180 degrees from one another. Some people oil the rings first to allow the piston to slide easier.

you may want to use a couple of lengths of fuel line on the rod bolts to protect the crank and guide the con rod into position.use alot of oil on the rings, piston and in the bore.get the compressor good and tight(german torque). the compressor should have some way to stop it from going into the bore ,like little flanges on one end.this end is toward the block.i like to use a good size hammer to send them in.notice i said "send ",it's a pushing action, not just hitting. use the end of the handle of the hammer to hit/push the piston. hold with one hand on the handle and the other hand on the head of the hammer to push.an assistant is extremely helpful even if said assistant doesn't know anything about it. have your asst hold the outside of the compressor tight to the block, maybe with gloves, and guide the fuel lines to the crank. IF ANYTHING SEEMS WRONG, STOP! and check the rings and reset. you may want the crank at tdc or bdc, it's up to you. good luck and have fun
