AC compressor O-ring failure

My 1995 f350 blew one of the 2 O-rings seals on the back of the AC compressor, spraying a yellowish fluid all over the place. I'm assuming this is compressor oil and based one the mess, that the oil is under pressure.

My question is what needs to be done to repair the AC system (other than the obvious of replacing the O-ring)? It worked great until the seal failed and when removing the bolt to access the O rings, I noted it wasn't very tight (guessing this is why the O-ring blew out).

I've only owned the truck a few months and don't know much history but the compressor appears newer.

To repair correctly, you're going to want to replace all of the o-rings in the system, replace the accumulator, and pull a vacuum on it to check for leaks and evacuate air and condensation in the system, then charge it.

As far as the compressor, yes that's oil. I'd recommend to remove the compressor, emtpy as much oil as you can, then add the required amount of oil to the system. I've always had good luck adding oil to both the compressor, and the accumulator.

Here's a chart that'll give you the required type and amount of oil, and also the amount of refrigerant you'll need.

Ok. I plan to have the system evacuated and charged by a professional. Before I do that, if I remove the compressor, drain the remaining oil, replace the proper amount and reinstall with new o-rings before then replacing the accumulator, I should be good to go?

Do I need to then get the system recharged ASAP or because it's sealed, should I be fine if it's not immediately recharged?

If you're going to have the system charged at a shop, just replace the o-rings and accumulator, and tell the shop that it leaked oil when the o-rings blew. It won't cost that much more to have them add oil to the system.
