there is a section of the road that the right lane is partially collapsed. and there is around a 6 inch dip on one side.
whenever i have to use that road, i always use the left lane, but this morning, there was a string of tractor trailers in the left lane, and i could not get over. so i had to continue over the bad stretch.
the front springs were pretty bad, and i was going to replace them in the spring anyway.
it just stinks that i don't have the money readily available to do them now. i have to put things on hold, or sell one of the trucks to get the money to fix this now.
the worst thing about it is the 78 has no engine in it, the 79 has a spun main bearing and i have the oil pan off it, the 2000 the gas pump died, and the 88 has a broken rear main leaf, and that makes it real dangerous to drive, so i now have no running trucks. .
I hate when my brakes are going bad in my stupid duty and I have to downshift to stop without hearing the most hellish noises... and the last time I downshift I get massive wheel hop and axle wrap - enough to pull the splines apart in the driveshaft. I had to drive about 30 miles in fwd with the rear driveshaft flopping around held up with a ratchet strap at 10mph. I had a fun night.
nope. stock springs on both trucks.
the 02 carries a 980 lb meyers C-8.5 plow in the winter, so that pretty much wasted the fronts on that one, and the 88 has seen 22 years of abuse, including many 4 ton loads in the bed. the funny thing with the 88 is, it was a 300 six cylinder leaning against the passenger side of the bed while i was delivering it that broke the passenger side main leaf.
oh. ok. yea, i found a set of X code 6000 lb springs at a local yard. came off a burn truck, claim is they only have 35k miles on them. $100 each. new is around $180 each from the spring place, and $375 each from ford.
Hey Captain Dip*****! Why didnt you take the d-shaft out?
Of all the toools I carry, a 12 pt 12mm socket and breaker bar wasn't included. I would've broke the ratcheting wrench I had if I put enough force on it to break the shaft loose.
a ratchet wrench is like what, $8 at most for that size. how much is a driveshaft or yoke?
for a stupid duty, a driveshaft is $675. i had to replace one this time last year for my neighbor on his "new" used truck, because a previous "mechanic" welder the u-joint cups to the shaft cause they were loose.
