A4LD to 4R44E?
If this question was answered already, I apologize. Sorry, I'm new here.
I have a '95 Aerostar 3.0 (got it for free) in my backyard with its A4LD tranny dismantled in the cargo area*. I was looking for a second hand tranny, but only could find a 4R44. Can these two transmissions be exchanged without problem?
I live on a tiny island in the Pacific, so there is not much supply for used parts - have to take what I can get.
*according to the pre-owner, the bell housing is f'ed up.

A 1995 doesn't have an A4LD. It has a 4R44e. 1994 was the last year with the A4LD. Why not rebuild your old tranny? That typically costs less, and it gives better results. You can not only get it back on the road, you can make it better than new with a few upgrade parts. Seriously, you might get another 10K - 30K mystery mileage out of a used trans, but you can get 150K to 250K out of an upgraded rebuild. On the trans, used parts are not the way to go.

early 4R44E were called A4LDE. ))))

well, if you have 2 solenoid tranny, this is really A4LD and swap is possible with PCM and wiring, may be some sensors, but I belive you have 4R44e. to be sure find a ID label on tranny ore drop pan to see how many solenoids there.
Connector view may help too. post shots of connectors here and we can identify.

Thanks for the answers. The tranny is already taken apart. The idea to rebuild has been growing on me the last coupe of days. Especially since I found a rebuild-diary on the Explorer forum.
The owners manual (95) says A4LD, so I assumed it is one. I'll look for the ID's...

Pablo, the information I found (wikipedia) about the A4LDe says it was the European name for the Scorpio's 4R44e tranny.

Usually budget of tranny rebuild is about $1000-1500, do not change worn parts only, do full rebuild, less problems in future

We have very low wages here in our place. We'll rebuild the whole thing. All that goes extra is the the TC... he doesn't have one in stock right now.
