I have a 92 F-150 300 Inline Six. The other day I was driving to work and suddenly the truck acted as if it had no gas. Check engine light came on and then started to shift hard when i take off through first to second. Truck now idles ruff. All this occured at the same time. Idles ruff just during idle. I've checked the plugs and plug wires, distrbu and rotor button. Changed fuel filter. Took exhaust off to c if its the cat stopped up and so far nothing has changed. I checked fuel realy in fuse box. Nothing I have done has changed the problem. If you have any suggestions please I need the help, THANKS
I know on the C4, C5 and C6 transmissions have a vacuum modulator. If you suddenly broke that vacuum line it could cause shifting problems and a very rough idle. Worth a check. You should be able to hear a vacuum leak. If you happen to have an old stethoscope put the head off and use that to listen around for one.
Yeah I just came from outside and swaped map sensors and that didnt change anything where would I need to check that line at for the vacuum modulator line, sorry for being not inlcined with what your saying
Look on the right side or near the back. Most likely on the right side just above the pan. It should be a round sensor looking thing with a vacuum hose attached in the middle. I would trace it back up to the engine bay and check that area as well. I'm no mechanic either so not being inclined is cool with me lol. I just play mechanic on the weekends on my own, friends and families cars when time allows. That's just happened to me before so I thought it was worth a shot.
I'll try and crack open the manual for it. Maybe one of the pros will chime in and nail it down for you. I would get the codes off the brain. That may lead you in the right directions. By the way, you don't need a code reader for that truck. If you need help with getting them lemme know.
yeah i was reading bout getting the codes, i got like one more day to figure it out before i just end up having to take it to someone thanks for any help
Check out this link. If you don't have a multimeter you can use a paper clip! I didn't read the link but it should cover it. Essentially you count the flashes of the engine light instead of watching your meter. If it does not explain that there are many websites that do. Most people make it sound more mysterious than it is. Nothing to it at all. If you can count you can get the codes. No need to pay for it, trust me. It's not rocket science lol. If you need a simpler explanation I can do it but from what I can tell you can read. That's about all that is required.
