OK reading between the lines try this on for size. If I'm interpreting your question right I'm thinking inexperience and improper terminology is the problem your having getting the right answer. so here we Go I think you are inquiring about the Distributor it'self and thats what you need if this be the case the Core would be the one presently in your motor you'd return it as a core either upon purchase of the new one, or After purchase if you wanted to keep it to compare and get the new one installed correctly. and once you gave them your *Core* they'd ship it off and remanufacture it. and just for your info the components are Distributor cap/Rotor/Distributor/theres also the control module. Hopefully this clarifies it for you
If you really do need a replacement distributor then the new one should slide right in without anything else. Make sure you mark the position of the rotor cap to the distributor before removal so it is installed with the proper orientation. You will have to approximate the location of the marks off the old one and install the new based on those marks. Otherwise, the engine will need to be positioned at TDC on the compression stroke and the rotor pointing at the number one plug wire.
what makes you think that the distributor itself if shot? This might be a pricey & unnecessary replacement. Usually the wires, cap, and rotor will wear out. But the dist itself usually last forever (more or less).
Nope, not assuming anything repair-wise. Just checking for future info just in case. I appreciate everyone's help! I've driven a semi for years now and I've hardly gotten to put a wrench to anything I actually own. So, again - handy but green when it comes to auto repair.
Oh IC. No problem Keating. I don't think anyone here wanted you to spend money on something that's did not need to be replaced. We are all...well,... frugal lol. At least I am! "If it ain't broke don't fix it"! lol
