I guess it may be time to look into getting a scan tool with live data capabilities. I don't want just a code reader. With that being said, what do yall recommend? Where to get? Prices? All I've really heard anything about is Auto Enginuity and Scan Guage. And honestly I need something more for the price and functionality vs fancy options. But the way things are going it will have paid for itself soon.
The only two I'm familiar with is as you mentioned, AE and Scan Gauge AE is the cream of the crop but requires a lap top computer. It will probably do just about anything you can think of. Scan Gauge is very affordable and quite powerful for its small size. I wanted the ability to watch real time data as I was driving and it fit the bill for. Something about watching real time data gives you piece of mind everything is working correctly, at least for me.
With AE I believe you have to purchase the basic package then get the Ford bundle, but I might be wrong. I'll let another member who uses AE give the details.
Thanks Jim. I bet there is quite the "peace o mind" factor when cruising with the scan guage. And I was thinking the same thing about AE as far as having the basic software and needing to purchase the additional Ford stuff. That's what it looked like anyway from what I read. Maybe someone will chime in who has one.
I've got both. The AE is more capable by far. You do need the enhance Ford bundle to use with a Powerstoke.
What kind of live data do you want to see? You can watch 2 things at a time with the scanguage, and 9 things at a time with AE.
Drive up to the North Texas rally next Saturday and I'll let you play with both of them hands on so you can make up your mind. If you come, let me know first so I bring them. My wife is taking her truck this year so I'm the designated drinker.

So if I get AE with the Ford bundle can I also use it on the woman's 06 Explorer?
I'd like to be able to see live feed like pressures and percentages during no starts or if rpms are picking up in the event of no CPS codes etc. I want to be able to diagnose without taking it anywhere. The only reason my truck ever goes to any shop is for diagnosis only. I also would like the scan guage for the guage functions. I want to be able to keep an eye on temps mostly. Especially when I get into the sand. But maybe I'll just get guages and a tuner separately. I'm just trying to think of the best combo for my truck vs cost. The biggest things to me are being able to diagnose, guages, and the tuner. Right now the plans aren't too extreme. I've got 6637 on the way from Clay, a 140v resistor at home, a BB for FPR shim, HPX, 3" DP, no kitty. That's really it. Oh and the tuner. Maybe stage 1s one day, maybe.
I would LOVE to come to the north Texas meet but I'll be payin my dues to the man for 24 hours. Wife's truck? Well that's pretty cool. My old lady wants a 7.3l Excursion but the bank man say no.
AE will pull codes and has the option to do other stuff on gas engines like your wife's explorer, but I'm not as familiar with them. I have used it to pull codes on other vehicles.
I used to have the "innova" it could read obd2, obd1, and had LD. But then I bought my PSD and the only LD I got was MAP, RPM, and mph. I am not familiar with the ones that have been listed but that is something to check for, just because it has LD does not mean it CAN read all vehicles.
Quick question to everyone
I got my Snap-on Veridict (partially for reasons stated above). But as I am reading LD every now and then the RPM's reading will shoot to about 58,000 and then go back to normal. Sometimes after it shoots up it will come back down and hover around 500-600 no matter how fast it is actually going. But the tach works beutifully never a twitch.
My question is this, is the cps the only way it reads RPM?
The MAP will do the same thing at about the same time but never exactly the same time.
I think the pcm was replaced at one point could I need to reflash it.
I use the Snap-On MT2500 called the red brick. Got it on ebay for about 300.00 works great on our trucks. Just make sure it has cartridges good thru at least 1999. I got the programmable ones that u can take to Snap-On truck and have the updated. Good luck.
