So iv been doing my resurch on different scanners. And i want yalls input on whats the best scan tool that lests me do it all for the best price. And where all got it from. Looking in the price range of $200 to $500 dollars but trying to stay away from the top end of that.
200-500 is actually the cheap end.. the high end ones will run you a couple to few thousand dollars...
In order to best answer your question what we need to know is what are you actually wanting to do as far as scan tool is concerned? Are you wanting something for troubleshooting/diagnostics? Or just wanting something to act as a set of gauges and occasionally read the major trouble codes that could get thrown??
If i read your quarry right your wanting something that can do all the factory diagnostic tests, along with reading even the minor trouble codes that dont show up with generic scanners.. Correct?
That is correct. Trouble shooting/diagnostics. Live feed reading. Dosent have to be great a as you see dont have alot of money to trow at it. But still want it to get the job dune.
Ps would be nice if i could send commands to the vehical like ijector cut out and stuff like that. But i know its pushing it.
know the feeling, in the same boat there.. main ones i know about dont run cheap.. Atleast if you go main stream your usually looking at the factroy capable scanners from like snapon, mac tools..places like that..
Aftermarket a lot seem to like the AutoEngineuty thing.. which you can buy just the ford packet thatll run you around $400 and change with taxes..
Scangauge II just pretty much reads the sensors and some of the more major codes.. I actually have one.. You can do some diagnosing with it just by the senosrs..
ForScan can do some of the facory tests but not all of them.. Got a look at it recently when another member here used it on my truck to help figure out a miss issue.. Showed codes the SGII wasnt showing.. We could buzz the injectors but couldnt do a contribution test.
theres a clone of the ford VCDII IDS scanner you can find for about $200 ish that will let you run all the same tests the dealer can run.. some like it some dont. cheapest place ive seen is from a site called DHgate.com..
Well iv been dealing with a rough idle issue with black smoke . did all the manual checks to inclued the bubble test and failed . number 6 injector was leaking and had a cracked tip. Just dont want to go threw all the a** pain of doing everything manualy agen if it
When i met up with the local guy here that had the Forscan program we were able to do buzz test which passed... but while we couldnt run contribution tests we found trouble codes showing 3 injectors with low contrubution results..
you can get the wifi adapter for about $5 usb one couple dollers more.. dont know what he paid for the PC version but i think the cell phone apps about $5.. least it was for the Iphone.. was originally designed for the Droid phones.. but is handy even without the contribution test.
