Under the hood?
Under the hood?
Hey folks! I'd like a peek under the hood. For those of you who like to post pictures, let's see before, during and after pics of your projects. Thank you all for the help along the way...Geo
Julie, I haven't seen that pic before, that 390 is a tight fit isn't it? Can you even use block huggers on a 390 or are the headers you have pretty much the only option? I like the spark plug wire tubes btw, nice touch.

You might be able to use block hugger headers on the 390 like this, IF you were to substitute the stock steering box for something else - Toyota maybe. But with the stock steering box, no way - over the frame or installing a stock manifold on backwards - pointing the exhaust pipe forward then looping it back (as my original set up was configured). It put the exhaust pipe too close to the fuel pump, and made changing the oil filter impossible.
I found out too late that the new "over the frame" set of headers negated the installation of a MII front end (which I had already bought) and required me to rebuild the stock front end. Had I know at the time how great the stock front end was going to turn out I would have never bought the MII front end in the first place!
The plug wire tubes are aluminum and kept apart with 8mm wire looms - I had a BIG problem with the spark jumping from wire to wire. FEs are notorious for that especially between #7 and #8.
VERY TIGHT! 1/4 inch from the back valve cover to the firewall, and 1/4 inch from the top of the C6 to the transmission cover. over the frame or installing a stock manifold on backwards - pointing the exhaust pipe forward then looping it back (as my original set up was configured). It put the exhaust pipe too close to the fuel pump, and made changing the oil filter impossible.
and I never understood that, makes sense now.
Steve that is one saweet lookin' flathead, can't wait to see the rest of that truck come together.
All I have are before's, because it's not after yet. lol.
A couple things to note, the truck was delivered from the factory without paint, only in primer (yes, that was an option, believe it or not), so you'll notice factory red-oxide primer on the firewall, and the unique Canadian ID tag at the upper center of the firewall.

The only reason I'm posting this photo is to show that the farther from finishing you start, the harder and longer it takes to get going. So if ya think you see the perfect price for a project, remember that it will cost more in the long run. There will be no after pic.
