I would like to spend plus or minus around $500 on a winch set up for my F350.
Front mount would be nice, but I do not want to buy another bumper. The catch is that I plow and have a meyer classic mount on the truck half the year.
I was wondering what people were using, or what they reccommend to me being in this situation.
I don't think $500 is going to get you very far with a winch set-up unless it is a smaller utility winch.
If your looking for a set-up to pull your truck out of a ditch you have a lot more saving to do.
Without changing your bumper your other choice would be a front mount reciever hitch.
These run around $200. They typically have a "straight" line pull rating of 9000# so that means your winch will need to have similar or less ratings. Pulling at an angle lowers that rating considerably as well as leading to safety issues.
There is a lot more to winching than you think. To pull a 3-4000# car out of a ditch can easily take a 10000# winch. Of course there are a lot of variables involved and could be less or more.
As far as the winch set-up, you have other items that the winch will require but again all of this has alot to do with the intentions you have for it.

Thanks
front mount hitch sounds like a good idea. I dont plan on doing too much winching of myself, I do plan on doing a little bit of winching of other people when needed, but I can just pull them out if that doesn't work.
Mostly I would use it for
pulling logs and other things that I wouldnt use my truck to drag through dangerous places
Good to know the use. I've thought about a small hitch mounted winch for pulling logs as well. Sometimes Costco has winches, at least at our local Costco. They are an off brand. If I had the money I would buy a Warn winch. I consider them the best. I would buy the most winch I could for the amount of money I had to spend; however, if I couldn't afford a Warn I might start with a Costco winch and realize it's probably not going to last as long.
I have a 8000 lb mile marker, set up on reciever hitch mount,I ran cable to the front and rear of truck for power thru a master disconnet switch, with welding lead twist lock plugs,I already had a front hitch to move my boat around,I figured more than not you want to retrace your tracks to get out of trouble, but if you want to go deeper put it on the front hitch.
the key for me was the wireless remote.. I need to winch my show car in and out of the trailer (no way to drive it on and the open the door)..
I had fried a couple 3,000lb'ers..
I put it on a receiver platform so I can move it around.. and I had to use it to winch the 4x2 dually out of my back lot in January after all the rains.
put it on my front receiver on the ranch hand bumper.
