im looking to put a winch on my 5.4 f350 and was wondering what size winch i should get. also im hoping to put a plow on it at some point and didnt know if the winch would be in the way. thanks
Size of winch depends on what you plan to do with it and why. I have a 2,000 lb winch that I use for different things but it's about done winching a log out for firewood. It will probably interfere with a plow, but it depends on the plow. Lots of budget plows use a small winch to lift the plow blade.
Edit: - totally off topic but this winter I was stranded in a motel when we got 25" of snow one night. I watched a guy with a F350 6.7 PSD plow the parking lot, full of cars and drifts at least 4' deep, he had a plow with full hydraulic up/down, left/right and the ends of the blade could each angle in, and I had serious truck envy... that thing flat out worked!
If you're buying a winch to be capable of getting yourself unstuck, the absolute minimum you want is 1.5x the weight of your vehicle, and preferably 2x. On a Super Duty, this means you'll want something in the 12,000-15,000 lb range.

OOOOORrr You can get a lesser capable winch which is lighter and takes up less room and just get weight multipliers/****** block/pulley.
