I've been searching this site for an hour on how to disable the chime in my 2006 SD, and all I found was for gas trucks. Can I disconnect the chime on this truck without causing any issues? I've got the seatbelt chime off, but it still bongs at me when I open the door, and the worst one, when the trailer wiring harness isn't perfect. The lights and brakes can be working and it still beeps at me whenever I put my foot on the brake or hit a bump. I pull several different trailers and at least one of them will cause the chime to go off. I HATE that thing, and I just want to disconnect it.
I have posted several plea's for help on this site about this issue. I drive a 2005 250SD 6.0 diesel. I started having intermitent brake disconnect issues in 07. Ford stealerships from Houston to Jacksonville Fl. have looked at it and cannot tell me what is wrong. I have to date spent $1485 on this issue. I have replaced the OEM Ford Brake controller, I have replaced both of my trailer plug in's twice. I have had my brakes on my trailer completely reworked. New Magnets, and all the wiring checked. I have had all the wired on the truck re-connected, soldered and heat shrink placed on all connections. And still having intermittent problems. This past week was the straw that ends it all. It completely went dead for about 30 miles. So I am currently having a after marked controller installed with all new wiring. I am by passing all the ford wiring. One Ford dealer told me I need to just trade it in and buy a new truck. I have not even mentioned all the trouble the sicko engine has been. I love ford's and drive nothing but ford. I will not buy anything from Chevy or Dodge. But I do have to say after many fords. This one has really shaken my confidence in Ford Stealerships. LOL! But most likely when we get a new administration in DC I wll buy another one.
it must only happen when the trailer has brakes ,, and must be isolated to the brake circuit
if I run regular trailers I never see anything on the controler ,, I wonder if it as simple as a ground issue?
Mine is just a connection problem I think. It probably could use a new connector on the truck. It's not just the trailer chime, it's the door chime - I just want to get rid of the chime. Feel like I'm sitting in McDonalds with all the beeping. Yes truck, I know my left front door is open, I frikken opened it!
lol ! i have no chimes I did the stuff in the manual for the seat belts and I did the ignition key cylinder mod for the key in door open ,, I don't know what turned of the door chime ,, I did them at the same time but I bet it was the cyl mod as that makes sense
Most trailer axles have the brake wiring routed inside the tubular axle to connect one side to the other.
Over time the insulation wears through and the wiring intermittantly grounds out or shorts between the wires.
Because the wiring is not visible and the problem is intermittant, it can be hard to diagnose.
I had this issue and it took me a long time to find the problem.
BTW, a failing magnet can have the same symtoms.
Hope this helps.
In the few times it has happened to me, it has always been the trailer ground. Take the ground wire off. Clean the frame down to bare metal and clean the wire. Then re-attach and done, no more ding-ding.
