Hello, I've got a good electrical problem that I need some help with. I own a 93 F-150 inline 6. The problem is this: with the engine on and all doors closed, when I turn on the parking or headlights the chime starts to chime and continues to chime untill I turn off the lights. When the engine is off and I jiggle the key receptical for the ignition the chime wants to chime but its not getting enough volts so it sounds like its whining/crying, the 'ding...ding...ding' isn't there its a continuous sound.
I have not read out the plug to the chime to see where the power is coming from since I don't have a wiring diagram. But I played with the fuses and found that if I pull fuse #8 the chime stops...unfortunatly I loose my radio when I do that.
A friend suggested the drivers door switch, maybe the truck thinks the door is open when the lights are on giving me the ding...ding...ding. However, the door/dome lights go out when I close the door so I know the switch is making its contacts. I don't know of a module/relay that I could check out.
Anyone have any ideas?
Tim

Those years have a reputation for a weak lock cylinder (what you put the key into), and the chime switch is attached to it. Get a replacement at a parts store for ~$12 and check here for how to install it. All you need is a 4" probe, about like a bamboo skewer or the refill from a ball-point pen. There's one hole in the bottom of the steering column shroud that's smaller than the others - you turn the key to RUN, push the probe straight up into that hole to depress the small pin, the withdraw the lock cylinder with the key still in it & remove the probe. Then put the new one in (it should already be in RUN) and turn the key back to OFF and remove it.
