The ignition cylinder has a little switch in it that makes the door chime work when the key is installed. If you pull he bottom cover off your column you will see a wire going to the cylinder. Two options. 1.. cut wire 2. Pull cylinder and fix switch. Most likely it has slipped out of its little holder and is grounded.
That's the first thing I do when I buy a OBS, unplug it under the dash by the steering column.
This is always my first mod too!
It is a cigaret pack sized box and has a surprising amount of wires to it...about 4 or 6 or so. I was expecting only a pair of wires. My recollection is that the connector is D shaped and reminds me of the OBD test port, not the newer port.
I too hate that chime for the key in ignition, but I kind of like the chime for the headlights. If you unplug that chime box, you loose all chimes, so my solution was to bend the male tab on the chime for the key in ignition over so it will not plug back into the female wiring. That way I loose the key in ignition chime, but still have the headlight on chime. The female wire for the key chime is black with pink stripe.
I have no key in the switch & the headlite switch is off & when I open the door the damn chime ---chimes so madpog what is making it do this? Is there a colored wire I can disconnect & if so where can I find it. want to keep the lite on chime & the key in switch operating Friskyjake
