so my old '04 excursion and my current '98 expedition and hell even my '96 explorer all have the "autolock" thing that locks the doors once you hit like 15mph.

in my '00 limited excursion it doesnt do this, now if i remebered it was somthing you could program on/off if you wanted it or not. i looked through the whole owners manaul and can not find any info on it.

anybody have any idea if the older excursions have this and if so how to activate it?

 

Here's a copy from the 02 manual 3rd print:

Autolock
This feature automatically locks all vehicle doors when the following conditions are met:

* all doors are closed, and
* the brake is pressed before reaching 8 km/h (5 mph), and
* the ignition is in the RUN position and the vehicle is traveling more than 8 km/h (5 mph).

Relock
The autolock feature repeats when the following conditions are met:

* any door is opened then closed while the ignition is in the RUN position, and
* the brake is pressed before reaching 8 km/h (5 mph), and
* the vehicle is travleing more than 8 km/h (5 mph).

Deactivating/activating autolock
There are 3 methods to enable/disable this feature. One through your dealer, the second with a power door unlock/lock sequence and the third with the keypad. Before following the activation or deactivation procedures, make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed, ignition is off, and all vehicle doors, liftgate and cargo doors are closed.

Keyless entry key pad procedure
1. Enter 5 digit entry code
2. Press and hold 7/8 control
3. Press and release 3/4 control
4. Release 7/8 control.

The user should receive a horn chirp to indicate the system has been disabled or a chirp followed by a honk to indicate the system has been enabled.

Power door unlock/lock procedure
You must complete steps 1-7 within 30 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, you must wait 30 seconds.

1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Press the power door unlock control three times.
3. Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF.
4. Press the power door unlock control three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to ON. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autolock was activated.
7. Turn the ignition to OFF. The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete.

Pressing the power door UNLOCK/LOCK button again will toggle the Autolock/Relock states.
Turn ignition to OFF to exit programming.

 

My 2000 does not have this feature. Don't believe it was available on the Ex in 2000 but not positive on this.

 

It's not on the 01 either!

 

I have a 2000 and happened to be on a site called "the12volt.com"

A post there claims with what looks like 4 relays, a small capacitor and a diode you can add autolock...
Add auto lock,unlock to Excursion,F250

 

i fixed the issue by getting a 2002... sometimes miss that old '00 though.

the relays would not have made a difference. the '00 was totaled in a head on crash.

 

That's odd. I couldnt stand this feature and disabled it.

 

Yep, got it disabled on my 2010 F150 too!!! If I want the doors locked I'll lock them myself!!!

 

It was on my 98 expedition, 98 explorer and my 04 excursion. Each had it disabled with-in a week of getting them. Now if only I could disable the seatbelt alarm without rigging it...

 

LOL ! I find that the lock button is well within my reach while driving as well !

 

If you're talking about the '04, there should be a procedure to disable the seat belt alarm in your owner's manual.
