4wd stick shifter
I am fully aware that the selector switch on the dash operate the ESOF and engages the transfer case, allowing the vacuum system to engage the auto-locking mechanism on the hubs if they are set to "auto".
I am fully aware of the difference between a "manual" locking hub and an "automatic" locking hub on these trucks.
This is the question:
Is it always, 100% of the time, true that the auto/lock hubs are accompanied by a selector switch on the dash, or is it possible for a truck to have a stick-shifter for 2hi/4hi/4lo and still have the auto/lock configuration on the hubs?
The reason I ask is that I keep seeing trucks advertised as having automatic locking hubs (which, on these trucks really means you have the option of using them in auto or locked position), but the pictures show the stick-shifter for 4wd on the floor. This configuration, if it exists, is fine with me.
I've been assuming the advertiser is simply wrong and these are all trucks with free/lock hubs (aka "manual" hubs), but I dont want to dismiss these trucks from my list of candidate trucks if the advertisers are on to something I didnt know existed.
Please refrain from responding unless you really know what you are talking about, as I have already been gifted with plenty of people calling me stupid for asking, misunderstanding the question and launching into lengthy and poorly composed descriptions of the Ford hub systems, and otherwise wasting both my time and theirs.
Thanks!
