I, as well will installing a 5.0 HO. Mine came out out of a 93 tbird. At this point I have purchased a 8.8 rearend off of splorer. It is complete caliper to caliper. But I am still looking for a transmission. I initially wanted to go with a t-5. After consulting with FTE members they mentioned that manual may be in a bad position if i wanted to keep the bench seat. I decided to go with an auto. It will be a c4,6 or AOD but at this point I am not sure if there is any pros or cons in the three. So I am just looking for the best deal.

The C4 fits great without cutting or big modifications. The AOD gives you the advantage of overdrive for increased economy. The C6 is beyond overkill for a 302 and really saps the horsepower to the rear wheels, as there's a lot of drag through that box. Figure on losing about 50 of the 220 horsepower the 302 will put out using the C6, or about double of the other two.

Install a new front Dampener, that is one of the weak spots to the 302, they will sometimes work loose and mess up the crankshaft end, Ask me how I Know replace the timing chain with a double roller assy. use lock tight on the retaining bolt on the dampler, also on the C4 trans, remove the front weak thin intermediate band, and install a heavy duty intermediate band, the stock band is like a thin piece of sheet metal and break easy, also install a shift kit in the trans, with a trans cooler that will make it last longer, use 3.50 to 3.70 rear end gears, hope that Helps, Chellie
