Shell Rotella T6

After reading the info on Rotella T6 it would seem to be a good oil for the 6.7. I like how it is formulated to help with the DPF. I will be using T6 for my first oil change. Anybody else using T6 with any input.

It's what I decided on after reading as much as possible online. I have used Mobil 1 on all my previous vehicles and would have continued but it doesn't have the CJ4 designation. I can't say that the truck is any different after the change. I track mileage pretty closely so if it makes a difference, it will show up after a few tanks.

I also like the fact that you can get T6 at Wally World.

Also about oil:
I saw someone using 5W-40, mighta been Epic, but I am planing on using 10W-30. Reading the manual it seems to fit the bill for me in the Atlanta area temperature ranges.

Anybody have good ideas for or against using one or the other?

The Rotella T6 is a 5w-40 full synthetic. Like Epic after reading about the T6, I thought this would be a good oil to run.

Is it a good idea to hold off on using full synthetic until the motor starts to get broken in? I was reading that switching to full synthetic too soon and the motor will take a lot longer to break in properly.

I remember hearing the same thing somewhere. Don't remember how long ago though.

Based on data, T6 is really outstanding stuff. If we ever had to stop using the stuff we use (from Renewable Lube), T6 would be what we'd use.

Yes it does. It has for some time now.

Here's a pic of the back of the bottle of the M1 "Turbo Diesel Truck" oil I bought at wal-mart for my winter oil change last year on my '08 6.4L truck:

Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40

For some reason I can't find it at Super Wal-Marts, but the regular ones seem to carry it.

10W-30 is fine for a daily driver/light worker that does not burn any biodiesel, but if your going to be working your truck (towing/hauling) and/or using biodiesel you will want to use 5W-40 or 15W-40 as recommended by Ford...

Thanks for the clarification. I couldn't find it at my Wal-Mart either and when I got started down the Rotella T6 track, I stopped looking for Mobile 1. Mobile 1 is a great synthetic as I used it on all my gas Fords. Never had a lubrication related failure.

Yeah, I'm not sure why some walmarts have it and some don't. Never have seen it anywhere else either.

I know rotella is great oil but I will be using Mobil1 this winter. Mainly because I have a quart left over from last year, as I only need 3 gallons instead of 4! Will probably switch to Rotella T5 10w30 in the spring.

My two 6.0L Superduties always ran better in the winter months if I used the synthetic Rotella. During the warmer months it was as big of a deal. There has been many a day, I was parked on a jobsite all day with temps at or below 0*. After fighting to get my skid loaders, excavators and other diesels running after a night of cold soaking in sub zero temps. I don't need to worry about my truck.

I'll let the dealer do the first oil change since I have the $50 coupon and another $100 or so in Owners Advantage points. And I want to have them top off the DEF while it's in for the oil change. The local dealer gives you every 5th oil change for free. I'll have to look at the math and see how much the normal oil change is and see if that's any kind of deal.

I use Rotella 15w 40 in my 2011 F-350 Dually. It seems to be working just fine with the heavy loads I haul.
