E-brake light problem

OK guys, got a 96 7.3 powerstroke mainly stock. Lately my E-brake light comes and goes on and off intermittantly. The brakes seem fine but the dang light comes on and goes off while I am driving sometimes........the kicker is that when the light comes on it kicks out my cruise control..........a real pain. Anyone with any ideas?

If It is the E Brake for the light for sure , you can unplug the wire on the brake itself for a test.. IIRC , it won't set the light ..

I would be inclined to check your vacuum pump. If you can fit a gauge to the vacuum system you should get around 20in of vacuum at idle if the pump is good.

X2 On the Vacuum Pump. Usually when the Vacuum Pump goes bad the Ebrake light will stay on. Also when the Vacuum pump goes out your brake pedal will be solid as a rock to press.

If that is the case I would unplug the warning light as I posted before , it is a single wire

x2, the stock sensor for the e-brake is a cheesy little thing. Just unplug the one wire and be done with it... won't hurt anything.

I'd fix the problem. Can't back up with the e-brake on but you sure can go forward and not even know it.

If the brake was on , there might be other symptoms...
