I did some work to the truck today. Fixed my e-brake cable. I was trying to get the light to come on the cluster when the e-brake is engaged and cant get it to come one. There is only one wire on the switch and was wondering where that one wire goes to?
I can't answer your question, but my trucks "brake" warning light sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I have figured out that the light will come on if I wiggle the connector on the switch. Its just a bad connection. I don't know if it is slightly corroded or the connector is bad. I had almost forgotten about it until now. Maybe I'll fix it. It would be nice if it worked all the time.
im having the same problem with my 93. the light works because it comes on when i first start the truck like it suppose to. but when i apply my e brake it doesnt light up. i think my switch is either garbage or the wiring somewhere has been cut somehow. i would also like to know where this wire goes.

Like I said earlier, test the switch with an ohm meter and see if its working properly.
The switch has a light green / red stripe wire coming out of it. I assume one side of the switch is grounded, and the wire goes to the daytime running lights module. I have no idea what or where that is. Maybe somebody will chime in about that.
The switch is grounded from the chassis. But the switch consists of a small metal rod that goes up and down. On the top of the switch, the small metal rod has a small washer and the switch has 2 small contacts. So when the rod goes down (e-brake applied), it closes the circut therefore the e-brake light turns on.
I've had the same experience with my switch as well, I took out a good looking switch replaced it with a good looking junkyard piece - and now it works everytime...
I would assume that since my truck has a auto no one used the parking brake often, the cables were pretty stuck when I bought it. But I don't like to place the load on the trans when the truck is on a incline. Maybe years of inactivty makes it intermittant?
If yours is like mine you can wiggle the switch with brake set and the light will come on.
