if i was having tranny related issues with my truck, would it hurt me to replace the torque conv as a way to troubleshoot? before dropping that huge chunk on a trans? i mean would it hurt to do it that way? planned on gettin a good one when i replaced the trans but got to thinkng maybe my problem is just in the stock single disk with 110k hard miles on it?
I guess if you are planning on a new TC anyway and do the work yourself the worst thing that can happen is the problem isn't fixed and you have to go down and up with the tranny, driveshaft(s), crossmember, and t case twice. In my case the money is more rare than my time so I'd have to chance doing the job twice.
well i know it needs a better one, and if it fixes the problem than it will be remarkably cheaper than replacing both like i had planned. whats the best one to buy as far as warranty and durability?
what are your symptoms? i know in my red truck when it was going it would start to slip on the highway after lock up, i would change the tune and it wold go away and if not then id shut the truck off for a second then start it back up, wouldn't do that for a few weeks then it would keep doing it for a day. very intermittent. if your going to buy a TC id go to RacerX or someother well know company and buy a billet tripple disk, i found a real nice one for 600$ a few months back when my friend was doing his, he cheaped out and its already slipping!
