87Aerstar A4LD-Torque Conv.
Is there a way to check to see if my torque converter is bad, tranny is out and on workbench. Gonna attempt to rebuild myself since I got ****** by the on the side mechanic. Rebuilt, ran 3000 miles then went POP as the wife explained and now nothing. Any ideas??

A bad converter creates a lot of debris. An old TC can be filled with a lot of stuff. If you shop around these can be very cheap to replace. I recenty bought one from Transtar Industries for an A4LD for only about $120. I found 5 mistakes in a rebuild that only lasted about a year. Guy even left out one clutch plate. You should be able to do just a repair. Get a new OD star washer. These are cheap $8 and the old ones get a little bend in them that is hardly noticed. Just a 0.020 bend can cause problems. Have you read "Anybody rebuild an A4LD"? This is an easy transmission if you take your time and read.
