two oil dipsticks?

I am working on this 292 for a 61 unibody, although I know this engine has been rebuilt I believe it's the orignial, but it has two oil dipsticks in the right side of the block. When I was driving this truck ten years ago, I thought that it had one stick in the timing cover, and one in the middle of the right side. Now that I have it out, and cleaned up, it has both dipsticks in the block, one right behind the timing cover, and one in the middle. So now I have a spare timing cover, and no idea how to get rid of, or which to get rid of, extra dip stick. The one on the front of the engine has been cut off at the full mark, and reads the same as the one on in the middle.

Any ideas anyone has would be a great help. Thanks in advance.
Howard

Simple, If you have a rear sump oil pan, use the rear dip stick. If a front sump, use the frond dip stick.

Are you sure the front dipstick is in the block?
Plugs for the dipstick hole are available at napa. I can't remember the size. Just measure the dipstick and get a plug the same size.
