Interchangeability

Howdy quick question will a 54 256 4 barrel montclair intake work on a 57 2 barrel 272 truck heads? I've gotten mixed answer from researching and would like some clairity on it, pre 57 are suppose to have small ports right? and 57 up are so suppose to have large ports? Or would a egz-9425-A work better?

You might get it to seal for a short while but it will leak at some point.

'54 have the smallest ports, followed by 55 and I think 56, and '57 on have large ports.

The ECZ-A manifold will work. The ECZ-B manifold is better. It uses a Modern 4v pattern. The '54-'56 carburetors are for use with load-o-matic distributors; you can use them with '57 and up distributors, you just won't be able to make use of the vacuum advance without the appropriate vacuum source. If you're working with a '57 or newer engine, stick with the newer stuff and if working on an older engine with no concern about originality, swap to a new carb and distributor.
