I had a bear of a time getting the valve cover off and unfortunately popped the engine oil dipstick tube out of its hole in the engine block. Anybody have any idea of what I need to get it back in there the right way?
Yup, as long as it's out, replace the o-ring if it looks worn. It can be a pain to get it lined up and seated back in. Re-install the valve cover, take the dipstick out of the tube, loosen the screw that holds the clamp and try to line it up and push it in. Might have to guide it from under the motor. Then just tighten everything back up and you're all set.
Well thats not too terrible than. In the meanwhile, I dropped a valve cover bolt into a recess of my van that I cant reach. What is a suitable replacement for that?
A grade 5 bolt of the same size and threading will do just fine. Add a washer if you don't have the the factory triangular one. The two rear bolts on mine were grade 5s with normal washers when I bought my truck.
