I have a 2000 Exedition XLT. I was wondering if the transmission cooler for towing would already be on the truck even though I did not have a hitch on the rear. It did have the flat pack for the trailer lights already on the truck bumper when I bought it used. Also, will I have a problem with the tranny if I tow with it a couple of times without it? I will be towing a 19 foot boat with it on the highway for about 60 miles. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the same setup as you and thought I had a trans cooler also. I have a 2001EB. No towe package but I got the 5.4/3.55LS rear. The cooler in the from is for the power steering. I followed the lines back. I don't towe anything yet just wondered what that cooler in front was.
I did alot of research on this icluding the Ford CD-ROM shop manuals. ALL Expy's have a built in trans cooler in the radiator, as do most cars. As I understand though, the Expy's is quite large and is more than capable of cooling the trans for most towing needs in most climates. Not satisfied, I tried to add a large cooler to my 2000 4.6 but could not find an adapter to it the Ford thread pattern and size on the lower rad. trans line input. I tried over 8 different adapters and not one fit (even the one that was supposed too). I gave up and tow regularly w/o problems. You just have to be satisfied that it is in there and you can't see it.
