E 250 Van Bumper Hitch

Hi I have a 86 E 250 Van with 171 Km on the Motor. This Van was used by BC Telephone, for 4 years and was well maintained. I have a heavy duty Bumper welded on the Back, and it was welded to the frame look like a real good weld. Will it be safe for me to tow a 30 foot Komfort Trailer. Do you think I should get a receiver and Bolt it to the Frame?? Not very mechanical but love to learn about it.
Thanks

Lyle

A 30ft anything will require a weight distribution hitch to pull safely.

You need a receiver hitch, my friend.

You will also need to learn about weight distribution hitches and sway control. www.etrailer.com is a really good source of info.

Is yours the extended van, or standard length? The long overhang on the extended vans can make sway control very very important.

This doesn't appear to be sticking out. Unfortunate for me that I didn't see it before otherwise I would have bought that brand.

Well I looked at the e-trailer info on the hitch I bought and it clearly stated the top measure 16-3/4" high which mine is. That's about 7" lower than my Yukon which it precisely the height for my TT and boat using a 2" drop ball mount. Guess I'll have to buy a 6" riser/drop mount.

The hitches on the Yukon, suburban, Tahoe, and expeditions are all very high up in the bumper.

im surprised your boat is that high, but the TT doesn’t shock me one bit.

the nice thing is that WD hitch shanks are better at lifting than lowering so you should be able to get the same hitch to work with the van by flipping the shank.

looks like a good hitch. Should be fine for 99.9% of all towing needs.
