Hi guys, I am looking for some help with changing the rear axle in my 96 Bronco. I have access to a 95 150 complete for short money(cheaper than a junkyard wants for just an axle) but I need to be sure it will work without reinventing the wheel. So here are the numbers
Bronco - S838M
3 55 88 6F06
150 - S947J
3L55 88 4K10
I did some searches in the forum first but, now I feel even more stupid.
From the looks of the numbers I'd say you are ok. But I'm not 100% sure.
Just for a heads up though. If this one doesn't work out I've got a 8.8 3.55 gears and Limit Slip I am taking out of the bronco. I'm going 3/4 ton axles. There's nothing wrong with the axle and would be a easy swap. $125 OBO
You'd be putting a 3.55 ratio locker in the Bronc, that's cool.
Check the rear pinion for excess lash before you go through the trouble of swapping the rear, as well.
Look at the front axle of the F150 and see if there's an "L" on that tag, also. Maybe you'll end up with 2 locker rears.
Thank you guys, I just needed to be sure before I commited. My son (the one who launched it ) will be happy to hear he won't be walking around all summer.
