I have a 1964 Mercury 390 out of my old Marauder in my '55 F-100. The engine oil smells a little like gas, must be leaking through somehow. The numbers on the carb are as follows:
FoMoCo
C4AF-DJ
A4CA
I assume this is the orig. carb (bought the car with 63,000 miles on it). Does anybody know the size of the carb? Can and should I get a rebuild kit? Or is there anoter way to solve this.
C4AF-DJ; Says the carb is of a 1964 vintage so probably the original. Is it a Holley or a Ford carb? However almost all 390 engine 4 barrels were in the 600 CFM range with vacuum secondaries.
Bear is correct, the pump can leak raw gas right into the crankcase, around the arm. I was lucky when my pump went with the original 360 in my highboy, it leaked out the vent hole instead of into the crankcase.
