If I change my 1967 F100(352 Big block) from a two barrel carb. to a 4 barrel carb. will it improve its performance and horsepower? If so what is the best type of 4 barrel carb. to purchase?
FE engines have notoriously restrictive exhaust systems. You first consideration is to switch to headers and dual, mandrel bent tubes and free flowing mufflers.
Now that the exhaust side is done, a dual plane 4V intake manifold and carb. A stock cast iron manifold is OK, an Edelbrock Performer, or a Performer RPM.
For a 352, stick with a stock 4V or Performer topped with an Edelbrock 1405 or 1406... choke style is your choice.
.... and the FE isn't a 'big block' per se since its basic block can be as small as a 330 all the way to a 428 while being externally (dimensionally) identical.
Something like a 600 cfm vacuum secondary carb will give you a bit of a boost in the top end while maintaining low end performance and driveability. Other important things you should consider, if you haven't already, is an electronic conversion for the distributor like pertronix. You would be surprised by how much that will wake up your engine as well. Switching to electric fans can also make your engine feel a bit more responsive.
I totally agree. I have always tinkered with Holleys, and know poop diddly about Edelbrocks as far as what to recommend.
I concur with your recommendations for a 600 cfm with vacuum secondaries.
.. the OP has to got deal with the exhaust before embarking improvements to the intake side of the engine. Failing to do so would be like asking a sprinter to run a 100-yard dash while breathing through a straw.
