Torque Chart of the 272?
Anyone know where the peak torque is and what the curve looks like on the 272 as used in a 1956 F3? Where is the 272 happy spinning? The truck I'm looking at is supposed to have 4.86 gears and 8R17.5 tires on the drive axle.
BTW, I've owned three Y blocks in their day.
thanks,
ray

Howdy,
Google is yer buddy here....
It found 258ft-lbs @2200RPM at 1955 Ford 272 V8 Engine Specs
Here's another one http://enginefacts.com/ford272.php
I don't how accurate that might be but it sounds about right........I am gearing my F-600 to run about 2100 RPM at 60mph so I can take advantage of MAX torque at freeway speeds. (not that I'll be doing MAX torq runs all the time!)
4.86:1 axle gearing is probably going to give you a LOT of RPM at highway speeds.....
If you're going to run on the freeway a lot, you might consider a "higher " axle ratio or an OD transmission.
