I am looking for a correct automatic trans, bell housing, flexplate, torque convertor to put my 1956 F100 back to stock (it has a 272/292 engine). Found a 1957 car set up - will that fit?
Thanks !
I believe there's a different bell housing for trucks which has ears for the mounts. You might want to ask this in the Y-block forum of FTE,for a more specific answer.Good luck,Steve.
I dont know about the bellhousing mounts being different and all for the mount? But what I do know is the bell crank for the shifting of them things is a pain in the butt to get adjusted right. My mom had a '56 Ford convertible and it had a 312 Y block in it with a Fordimatic in it and I had a terrible time getting that thing adjusted. Make sure you get all that linkage when you get the transmission. It bolts to the rear of the intake and has little rods that attach to the carb and to the gas pedal and then it goes down to the transmission. It is similar to modern TV cables on Overdrive transmissions and just about as aggrivating to adjust. Even if the bellhousing on the cars is different you can fab up a different rear crossmember though that shouldnt be a problem.
I had heard that they had started making a kit to put a modern automatic trans to the Yblocks, I'm not sure if that's true or not? Or if its something you'd even be interested in doing but you might? Good luck dude.
