Unhappy Looking for a New Tire Source

I need to get new rear tires for my F250 with the factory 16.5x10 rear wheels. I have been hunting around a fair bit and all I have found are Mudder style tires and BFG's. I only use this truck on the road and I really want to keep the stock look of the big and little steel wheels with caps, so I was hoping to find a replacement tire for the Goodyear Wranglers that are all dry cracked.

Any ideas for some other brands or private label brands that I can look at? The BFG's are okay, I guess, but there is a ton of conflicting information on them that has made me a bit leery about them. Nobody even seems to have some old stock Coopers around.

Does anybody have any ideas other than replacing my wheels as well?

Eric

Cooper still makes that size. I am in the same boat. Either get the Coopers or some 16" wheels and tires and it will give you more options.

Yeah, you could go with Cooper or BFG, but the other thing to consider is that they are getting more expensive compared to 16s and more obsolete. If you plan on keeping your truck around for awhile, it may not be a bad idea to start coverting your truck to 16s and give yourself more options. Depending on the brand of tire you buy, you might not spend that much more money for a 16" wheel and tire for the price of a 16.5" tire alone. And also, most stores won't carry 16.5 and if you need a replacement from a blow out in a hurry, you won't be able to get one.

My OEM tire size is 9.50R16.5. Saw a few cheap china brands too, but I wouldn't drive on those.

I wouldn't either. It should be cheaper for you to change over to 16's since you don't have the wide 10inch wheel.

IMO, American trucks deserve brand name tires: BFG, Goodyear, Coopers, Firestone, Bridgestone, Mickey Thompson, Pit Bulls, TSL, etc. I stay away from house brands like Big-O, Futura (Pep-Boys), Defender, etc. I don't trust them.

Wheels? I look to American Racing and Mickey Thompson.

BFG commercials. Great truck tire for street use. Mine came with a 50k mile warranty.

Well, an update. So far today I have spoken to about 6 companies about tires. It seems like a number of brand name companies still make a variety of tires in the 16.5 rim diameter, but only up to a 9.50. BFG is the only Big Name company that still makes a 33x12.5x16.5. You can find listings from Dunlop and Cooper, but they don't make them anymore.

I started looking at the Mudder Tires and trying to find one that wouldn't howl like a swarm of bees on the highway. After a couple of false starts, I ended up at a company in Tennesee that makes Pro Comps. They don't make the All Season tire anymore, but only the Mudd Terrain. So I called their Ontario Distributor and they put me through to a Tire Store that still listed the Pro Comp All Terrain. The guy gave me a great price and he told me that I can come and pick them up tomorrow. I have my fingures crossed that he can actually deliver, but if he can .

By the way and I have no way of confirming this, but the Customer Service person at the tire company, told me that Cooper was the actual manufacturer of the Pro Comp 33x12.5x16.5 tires. I have to say that the tread design sure looks like the Coopers I have on the front of the truck.

This should get me through the next couple of years, then I will have to change the wheels. Looking at 16x8's for the front and 16x10's for the rear in a nice traditional pattern.

Well, I found some tires. After I contacted Delta Tires in Tennesee and found out that they used to make a Pro-Comp with a streetable tread I started hunting. They don't make them anymore, but they put me in touch with their distributor in Toronto who had 38 tires like the ones I needed and in a 33x12.5x16.5 size.

I bought 2 and I am good to go for less than the BFG's. I am now rolling on Pro-Comp All Terrains, made by Cooper (I believe, but its all anecdotal) and they have a great streetable tread and a D load rating.

Thanks for the help and I am a happy camper now ()!
