I'm in the process of replacing some of my steering components. I just swapped out the steering gear yesterday, with a rebuilt one from Red Head. I have a Borgeson intermediate shaft with vibration reducer in transit. The power steering pump and pressure line was replaced shortly before I purchased the vehicle.
While working on it, I noticed that the drag link ball socket is not in the best condition. I figure I ought to just replace both drag link ball sockets, probably with the drag link too. Also, I'll probably do the tie rod ends/ball sockets. I might as well freshen it all up.
I can't seem to find the outer drag link ball socket anywhere. Also, there seem to be several similarly numbered drag links that seem compatible. There is no explanation of what the differences are. Some of the online stores don't seem to have any drag link components. Am I just using the wrong terminology?
Has anyone gone through all this? What are some good sources?
The truck is a 2wd DRW 1984 F-350 chassis cab with 6.9L Diesel.
Thanks. I was wondering if that was what was going on. But, the shop manuals definitely call it a drag link for the long one and a tie rod for the short one. I wanted to be sure that they would interchange.
