How Do I Replace The Turn Signal Switch?
Second is to remove the steering column shroud, cover.
Third, you will have to unplug the horseshoe connector at the bottom of the column and remove the wires from the connector.
Fourth, remove the turn signal switch mounting screws and pull the wires up out of the column.
Fifth, remove the horseshoe connector from the new turn signal switch, and write down and remember where the wires go into the connector as after you fish the wires down to the bottom of the column you will need to reinstall them into the connector in the correct way.
Sixth, reverse the proceedure from Four to one.
One can also easily make their own steering wheel puller, you just need two appropriately sized bolts, and a plate with two holes drilled in it.
problems routing wires down the column.
Obviously, you'll also need to unscrew the turn signal lever.
Before removing the wheel, I like to put a small piece of masking tape on both the wheel
& column, then use my thumbnail to to tear the tape at the junction of the wheel &
column. This marks exactly where the wheel was installed so it can be reinstalled in that
same place later.
Pay attention to which holes in the connector the wires fit into.
When reattaching the wheel, ensure the two copper spring-loaded connectors fit correctly
in the two rings on the back side of the wheel; if one doesn't, the horn will still work
(probably) but the copper contact will get worn down prematurely & oddly + the horn
circuit can ground out, blowing a fuse (which, IIRC, is also your brake lights and turn
signals although it might be just one of those and not both, I forget exactly). Ask me how
I know this....
Yes, the small plate with two holes used as a steering wheel puller works quite well,
better than commercial pullers in my opinion (and is much easier to bring to junkyards).
