In the process of doing the B and V mod etc. I noticed that the rubber boots for the ball joints on my drag link are shot and leaking grease. So time to replace the drag link.
Anyone have a good source?
A quick look on the web and seems some places confuse the drag link with the center link ?
I need the link that runs from the pitman arm on the steering box to the passenger side of the center link . ( If I have my terminology all sorted out).
The EX rides like a truck now.... need to get the link replaced and get it in for an alignment!
Oh... and install the oxygen system cause there is an altitude difference now...
Your last picture... what is the link that is on the top? That is the one I need.
As for "just make a day of it"
I've got more days UNDER my Excursion than I've have driving it!
A solid day plus to do the rear springs, shocks, sway bar.
Two days to do the front springs, dual shocks, sway bar and end links (used your pictures and tips on those), fixed front bumper and driving lights.
Still have my dual shock steering damper, the 6.0 tranny cooler, and front lights to do.
I need another day under the truck like I need a hole in my head!
Oh, when you need that 4' long, 600 ft lb max, torque wrench... there is nothing like having a coworker who's wife used to be a helicopter crewchief and contractor repairing helicopters. 406 ft Lbs... NO PROBLEM!
Steering link, attaches to pitman arm: ES3427T
Steering link, attaches to right tie rod: DS1438
Adjusting sleeve for above: ES3426S
Tie Rod, driver side: ES3423
Tie Rod, passenger side: DS1439
Adjusting sleeve for above: ES3422S
Do you happen to have the part number for the opposite end (the little section)?
The RockAuto site has photos of most parts, just match them up with my photo in the garage. Typically they give right, left, inner, outer tie rods as the descriptions. I re-used both adjusting sleeves.
I got mine at Auto Zone. Ordered at 4pm Sat picked up at 8am Sun. They had some crazy terminology for the part and the picture was wrong. I think it was called the inner and outer tie rod. We had to eliminate all other possible linkages before being satisfied we had ordered the correct part. Also, get a pitman arm puller and grease gun if you don't have one already.
It only took me 45min-1hr to R&R, a truly easy task w/ the right tools. Total cost was ~$120 or so.
PS
It really cleaned up my steering slop too.
And good luck with those headlights, mine were a PITA to upgrade to 05 style. Get an angle grinder and a dust mask!
