1966 4x2 spindles

1966 4x2 F100s do not have different size spindles and outter wheel bearings from left to right in the front do they? Mine does.... it was an abandoned project and so far I have not figured out why it was abandoned ... but maybe these two different sized spindles are related to the problem? Is it possible someone put the wrong year spindle on the left side? They both seem the same - except the diameter at the outside where the bearing sets. (the bearing on it when I towed it home was too big for the spindle actually...)

More to the point: should I just replace the left spindle with one known to come from a 1966 4x2 f100?

Thanks!

First.... Welcome to FTE!

Why don't you find a 73-79 f100 with disc brake spindles and go ahead and swap it over now?

if you need a drum brake spindle i have a couple of them lying around because i swaped my 2 trucks to disc brakes.

click my user name and send me an e-mail.

Welcome to FTE

C5TZ3105B .. Spindle-Right/Left is the same / Marked: C5TA-3107-A / Fits: 1965/67 F100 2WD.

So... as you can see, the spindle is the same 1965/67 F100 2WD, but...

The I-Beams and king pins are NOT the same. These parts are specific either to 1965 only, or to 1966/67 only.

C5TZ3111C .. King Pin Kit / Fits: 1965 F100 only / The pin has a slot in the center for the drift pin.

C6TZ3111A .. King Pin Kit / 1966/67 F100 only / The pin has a slot 2 1/2" from the end for the drift pin.

C5TZ3006A .. Right & C5TZ3007A .. Left I-Beams-1965 F100 only / The location for the king pin's drift pin in the I-Beams is in a different location than it is for 1966/67.

C6TZ3006A .. Right & C6TZ3007A .. Left I-Beams-1966/67 F100 only / The location for the king pin's drift pin in the I-Beams is in a different location than it is for 1965.

The I-Beams and king pins must match. You cannot use a 1965 king pin on a 1966/67 because of this and vice versa.

About a year ago a member with a 1965 F100 bought a 1965 only king pin kit. One side fit, the other side did not...because...a previous owner had installed a used 1966/67 I-Beam with its matching king pin.

Since you have two different sized spindles...which one is correct for 1965/67 F100's? The way to find out is...Look on the two spindles for their ID numbers, post what they are. If one is marked C5TA-3107-A, it's correct.

Hi - thanks for all the part numbers!

My spindles are pretty dirty, so I will need to do some cleaning to find the part numbers - any hints where to find them? I'm pretty sure though that the left side is wrong - I purchased new bearings for the front and the left side outer wheel bearing simply doesn't slip on. I checked the bearing part number and it appears to be for an early model Mustang with disk breaks (AND that bearing is a little loose).

I'm wondering - is it possible other things like the I beams - are for the wrong year?

Pete

Your I beams and radius arms are perty much all the same up till 1979
except for the king bolt set being different for 65.

here is a write up that one of the members did on swaping disc brakes. >>> http://mongrelmotorsports.homestead.com/f100discs.html <<<

all i used from my donor truck was from the sipndles out, you will need to mod where the tie rod connects to the spindle...(1/8th inch) easy enough to do with a 4 inch grinder.
the reason this needs to be done is so the castle nut will thread down far enough to get the cotter pin in the hole
