Spindle Nuts and Washer
69 F100 4x4 Dana 44.
Was tightening the locking spindle nut, and the washer that is sandwiched between the two spindle nuts spun. The tang that is supposed to stay in the groove in the spindle ran up on the spindle threads and jammed.
I disassembled, and checked by putting the first nut, then the keyed washer, then the locking/jam nut on the spindle without the hub, drum and bearing assembly, and it torqued fine.
Reassembled with the hub and drum, and the washer spun on the spindle threads again. It appears that the threads on the spindle are a little buggered right at that point.
Does anybody have any experience in dealing with this issue?

I bought 2 of these for my 70 f100 and never looked back Ford Bronco Front Axle Spindle 1967-72 Dana 30 & 44: eBay Motors (item 360133989287 end time Oct-15-10 15:48:08 PDT)
spindles from broncos up to 72 will work if you are still running drum brakes

By newer style, what do you mean ?
I found OEM replacements that look identical, that is, if Bronco Dana 44, and F100 Dana 44 is the same.

Thanks for that information. It is easier to find Bronco parts, and wonder if they interchange.
