It would be worth checking with the dealer, but your truck "should" have the latest calibration. Part of dealer prep is to run a OASIS which would have noted right on the main page if your truck was eligible. So, if your truck was prepped on the 3rd or 4th and all procedures for prep were done correctly it would be up to date...
I went in yesterday and was told that the update does indeed exist, but they didn't know about it until I asked (and they subsequently looked it up). Sooo... I guess they didn't prep it very well. Funny thing is that there was another KR already in the bay next to me. I hope they told that guy about the update and offered to flash it for him while he was in.
It was too late in the day to get the flash done while I was there, but I will keep calling ahead every day for the next week or two to see if they're busy around the time I get off of work. Aside from their ignorance on this subject, they have been a great dealer to work with. Bill Utter Ford in Denton, TX if anyone is interested. Now I gotta find out how much they want for DEF
If you call in advance and speak with the parts guy most ford dealerships will give you a big discount to buy FORD products I bought the FORD brand def for about 22 bucks for the 2.5 gal jug.
But you should be aware that the DEF has both a short shelf life as well as is temperture and sun sensitive, and will not last in your truck as long as fresh fluid if it subjected to long storage, and or high heat.
The recurring theme seems to be the incosistency with Ford's service departments - some are great and some are, well, whatever. I brought my truck in yesterday for my flash which I too had to educate them about - mine was the first to get done at my dealer. Took about an hour and I waited for it. When it was done, they handed my keys and I went back to the truck. First thing I noticed was the truck had not been washed nor vac'd which I thought was pretty much a standard these days. The second thing I noticed is that when I opened the door, the cab smelled like cigarette smoke. I was like WTF?
Next service I am going to try the other dealer in town - although they are owned by the same group so I am not optimistic the service dept will be any better.
Evening Guys,
at the risk of being slammed for asking a pessimistic question, I only ask because of my previous dealings with bad dealerships, hence the reason why I drive 140 miles one way for an oil change.......any way......my question is,
When I take my 2011 6.7 in for the "Flash" update, will there be any way for me tell the "Flash" was actually installed?, after I get the truck back?
I don't want to feel as if I have to look over the tech's shoulder watching, to make sure he actually did the install.
Again, my apologies for being pessimistic, I've just been burned in the past, not by the dealer I presently go to, but by both other Buick and Ford Dealer service shop's.
Right now your truck cancels the gear selection screen on the info panel when you shut off the truck After the flash the indicator will appear after a restart.

My apologies, I don't think I understand.....at present, in order to see the "gear selection screen", do I have to have the gear selector in "manual" ?

Sorry
No apologies necessary. This is a tough bunch.
Start the engine and put the truck in Drive. Then press the +/- on the gear selector stalk and the transmission gear numbers will appear vertically on the right side of the driver information screen. Then put the truck back in park and shut off the engine. Restart the engine and put the truck in drive again. If the numbers 1 - 6 appear automatically on the DIS without having to press the +/-, then you have the flash. It's one of the features of the update.
Of course, if you have to press the +/- to get them to display each time you start the truck, you don't have the update.

Gent's, Thank You very much I'd buy ya guys a round of beer if I could........seriously, Thanks !!!!!!
I had mine done today. The dealer gave me the usual paper work and another paper that tells you what the flash covers. He said ford wants the owners to have this.
Thanks for the backup Epic...It was a long day and I gave him the short version. I have a question. Does the XLT trim package have a dash readout for the gear display? If not, the little display trick to verify the new flash will not apply to them.

Right, didn't think of the non-fancy display trucks. Someone else is going to have to chime in on that. I can't see how the flash version would be visible without device to hook into the OBDII port.
