Vibration at 80mph+

2010 F150 lariat 4x4 with 18" stock wheels. Rides like a dream up to 80, then it starts to vibrate.

Suggestions?

First I gotta ask - where do you need to go faster than 80 MPH on public roads?

Now - is it in the sterring wheel? Is the truck shaking? Front end? Any noise?

Sure you do when those funny looking cars with lights are chasing you

I'll bet his tires need to be high speed balanced-my factory tires were very jumpy/vibration but problem was taken care of when I put on my new tires and balanced correctly. Chris

How about in Texas or Utah, where there are public roads with a posted 80MPH speed limit? Maybe he's not driving on public roadways at all?

ya its the whole truck. its not a major vibration but it happens.

Our speed limits here are 75 in a lot of places so I like to go about 6mph over.

Had to bump this.

My 2010 SCREW just started a vibration at 2100-2200 rpm. On the highway this equates to 75-80 mph. Shakes the whole truck and is very perceptible through the front seats.

I had a '04 F150 that had a similar issue in the 45-55 mph range, but there was a TSB for it that called for the drive shaft to be R&R'd. Problem never came back after that.

Anyone have a driveline vibration fixed?

How many miles on the tires and truck?

Outside of mechanical issues tires are the most common cause of vibration at highway speeds. Tires can be out of balance conditions at 80 mph but not as noticeable at slower speed. Sometimes a tire can have a condition where the cord can separate at a higher speed. Out of round conditions can cause vibration. The other contributing factors are all in the drive train.

Wasn't there some issue with the pinion angle in some trucks causing a vibration needing to be adjusted? Or am I just dreaming stuff again

I know there have been issues with some drive shafts. I would think if either it would be noticeable before 80 mph.

Ive never owned a truck that didn't have a slight tire vibration above 80 mph. Very slight in most cases, most wouldn't notice it. Always seemed to be the nature of owning a vehicle with a bit of sidewall on the tires.

One of the first things I do when I notice a vibration is check to see if any balancing weights have come off of the wheels.
