hi everyone.. i purchased a wiring harness to update my headlights from LMC they said its for 61-72??... heres the problem... it says its a plug and play but the wiring of the harness is set up to be wired next to the battery e.i. right side or passenger side however my truck has the wiring from the switch on both sides.. right and left or driver and passenger.. before contacting LMC i looked up a wiring schematic for my truck thinking maybe the guy i got it from (original owner) had tinkered a lil with the wiring... soooooooo checked the shematic and it was accurate... i contacted LMC and explained my problem with them... there customer service is not up to par by the way... and basicly didnt get any form of an answer...
now im not great at wiring but im not horrible either... my question is this... should i re-route my headlight line on the drivers side and run it through the passenger side to hook up this harness or should i alter the harness to work with my truck?? im realy at a loss here as i have heard alot about the ford flickering headlight syndrom and read an article on here that tells you how to the job this wiring harness was meant to, do it yourself... i figured 40$ was worth it to spend to have the work done for me but not if its not compatible with my truck... any help here would be great!!! thanks in advance
rik45acp,
I'm not sure that I understand your confusion/question, unless their directions/instructions are misleading or lacking detail. I've never installed a "pre-made" kit but have made several of my own. From looking at/enlarging the picture in their online catalogue, it looks pretty well thought out and straight forward. It looks like you simply connect power (from pic it looks like red wire) to the relays from the battery side of your starter solenoid, plug the 3-prong male connector into the nearest headlight connector (which ever side of the truck that is closest to the battery), route the harness to plug the new female connectors to the headlights, connect to ground wires to a good clean ground point near the headlights and tape over the now unused other side headlight plug of your original harness and you should be good to go. I can't tell from the pic if they have it set up to ground the primary side of the relays from your old harness or if you need to ground it at the relays (looks like maybe blue wires). For future reference, it would help if when you post questions, you let us know the year and model of your truck so that we have a clearer understanding of what you are working on. I also can't tell from the pic if there are any fuses on the supply to the relays. If not, there should be. Simply put a fuse in between the solenoid connection and the red wire or one fuse for each relay from the apparent junction of the one main red to the two reds. By the way, it doesn't matter (except for convenience/proximity) which side of the truck you take the "control" (3-prong male connector) from, as the old wiring from your headlight switch only supplies the small amount of current needed to trigger (turn on and off) the relays.

i am trying to install on a 1968 f100... where is this 3 prong plug??? i found it on the harness but cannot find or place it under the hood... less its behind the firewall under the dash? and if thats the case the harness is not long enough... there is two lines running directly from the headlight switch and the dimmer one through the drivers side and one routed through the passenger side.. are you saying i can simply run the harness from one side and it will power both?? and what about the other set running from the drivers side?? sorry for the confusion... im not so great at wiring! thank you for the timely reply!
