I purchased the heavy duty headlight harness from LMC for my 78 F250. The instructions for the install are terrible. Can anyone tell me where I can find the plug for the new harness to plug into the headlight wiring ? There is a cluster of wiring and plugs on the driver side near the firewall but, the harness appears to be designed to route on the passender side of the truck because the wires labeled for the battery are fairly short. The connector is probably right under my nose but I dont see it. Any help or pics would be greatly appreciated.
I put that exact same harness in about a month ago, and on a different truck about 2 years ago. Its works great, which surprised me, coming from LMC. There is one plug that plugs into the old plug that connected to the headlight. That plugs in on the right side. Then the plug with the shorter wires goes to the new headlight on the right. The longer one goes to the left side. The old plug on the left is not plugged into anything. Then you have to drill 2 holes for the grounds, 1 on each side, and two holes for the relays. Then I ran the wires for power to the hot side of the solenoid, and it worked. With the exception of the 4 holes you have to drill, it is completely plug and play. It is a great harness, I would do it again if I needed to. It does not connect in any way to the old switch. It is switched on when you pull the switch and energize the old harness
Thanks very much Cipsmithers. I knew the solution was staring me in the face. For some reason I had it in my head that it had to be installed at the poit the old harness exited the firewall. Makes perfect sense now. Thanks again.
It sounds like a plug and play version of the brighter lights tech article where you use the wires going to your headlight to power relays that then power your lights. It increases the brightness of your headlights and reduces the possibility of a dash fire when the headlight switch burns up because of all the current going through it on the way to the headlights.
Out of curiosity what does that harness cost? I sourced the parts for mine on my own, but wonder how much a ready made unit is going for.
The advantage is it can handle the power needed to sipply halogen headlights with enough juice

It goes for about $30 plus shipping. When I bought it a month ago, I think it was only $25

I wired my own, but I would suggest buying the pre-made one. I think I may have spent a little more doing it myself then the $30 kit from LMC, but my new bulbs were a little pricey as well.
I bought and installed the same harness in my 77 a couple of years ago. I too was concerned in dealing with LMC's sometimes iffy quality but I have had no problems with the harness at all. I did come across some posts talking about having the relays fail and being left with only high or low beams until a new relay was aquired. I found the exact relay at my local autozone store and bought 2 of them. They reside in my storage behind the seat, that way I'll never need them.
I noticed that pre-made kit too and was curious of the quality. Nice to know it actually works!
It definately works, Ive done it twice and my dad twice my uncle once... you get the point. I hooked it up to hella halogens and it hasn't failed me at all. Same setup on my f100, it hasn't failed either, and its been about 2 years on that one. Definately worth it, which doesn't happen much with LMC
