I have a 2000 F150 4x4, 5.4L and when I am coasting at 70 mph I get a vibration from the rear. I also get a strong vibration when I turn from a stop, mostly when I am towing. The u-joints have been replaced atleast once that I know of. I am not sure if I have the limited slip in the diff or not. What could this be from.
Probably worn clutch pack in rearend if limited slip. Which I imagine is what you have. Vibration when turning left and accelerating is sure sign of this. You might try changing the diff. fluid and adding the friction modifier as called for. If the clutches aren't too badly worn this should
eliminate the vibration.
clutch dont work at 70 MPH in a straight line. could be a variety of things, but tires are the first place to look. Change out the back with a spare set, or switch front and rear and see if location of vibration changes.
Tires wouldn't cause a strong vibration when turning . He also stated that it's worse when turning and towing . That's a classic sign of a worn clutch pack. I would also check the axle bearings for that high speed vibration. When did you last change the fluid? Is it low?
I just bought the truck bout a month ago, and just changed the fluid this past weekend. Everything inside looked clean and gears were in excellent condition. We'll see what happens.
