Not to really sound like a beyotch here, but if you want to go really fast without a lot of money invested, get a bike. The number of cars that can keep up with the average bike is about nil...
Remember too...our engines are not high RPM reving engines, they have more torque than most other vehicles on the road. I've had my truck matched-up to other racers with the fart-can exhaust off the line. I've always been able to beat them off the line and stay ahead of them up to a higher speed. I'm sure my truck isn't fast on top speed, but then again as stated here...it wasn't designed to be. I remember one time I was in a double left turn lane to get on a freeway and I was in the left lane and I saw out of the corner of my eye there was a black car to my right. Well, the light turned green and I started to make my turn and since I was in the inside of the turn which is a shorter distance to turn, you can usually come out ahead. Myself and this black car were almost side by side with me ahead a bit. I noticed the other driver started to come up on me at the point where the on-ramp narrowns down to one lane, so I stepped on it and opened my truck up pretty much to WOT and it launched off. At this point I noticed the black car was still hanging beside me this whole time and with-in a second it shot off and pulled away like I was standing still. Up to this point I had no idea what kind of car it was until it passed me and I found out it was a Mustang SVT Cobra...yeah, I didn't stand a chance. But the fun part was when I caught up to him I had a big grin on my face and he pointed to my truck and gave me a thumbs up and I did the same for him. I'm not sure what all he had under the hood of that thing, maybe some nitrous or some other goodie, but it was fast. So yeah it was fun even though it didn't last very long...lol.
Okay, so I was with my friends and their friends. My best bud's cousin drives a 98 subaru legacy with nothing other than a cold air intake. He started talking **** bout my 76 half ton sayin he could run down my 390 any day. I called bull****. I took, my air filter off, unloaded my bed, and warmed my tires. He did nothing. We got to the line, the girl put down her arms, his reaction time sucked compared to mine. For all of seconds I was a head, then he pulled head, and I couldn't catch him to save my life. I'll never live this down, I'm know as one of the best racers at my school, and to make things worse, he calms he was at full throttle. Any one else have any stories for the thread of shame?
Warmed tires?
Raced your truck?
Against a Scoobie?
You got spanked?
And you think it's worse because he was at full throttle?
A truck has a hard time keeping up with any car. As physics will tell you Force = Mass x Acceleration. Although horsepower is a unit of work it can be roughly translated back to force. More power therefore more force. Trucks weight way more than a car....have to spend way more energy turning more drivetrain mass and tires...and are less aerodynamic. NOTHING is in your favor racing a car. At least you can sound much louder and cooler!
Race the way I do. I tell everyone that wants to race me that it is on my terms. Go get the fastest thing you can drive and meet me on the side road. There is a 6 foot ditch on each side. I tell them that we are going to race in reverse gear. I do not care what the horsepower or torque is. Reverse is reverse, the nerves to race that way are slim.
You better have some real talent at high speed reverse driving in a straight line. It is difficult. My helper has gotten used to me doing it and does not sweat as much anymore. he still will not look out the back window though.
