Okay, so I was with my friends and their friends. My best bud's cousin drives a 98 subaru legacy with nothing other than a cold air intake. He started talking **** bout my 76 half ton sayin he could run down my 390 any day. I called bull****. I took, my air filter off, unloaded my bed, and warmed my tires. He did nothing. We got to the line, the girl put down her arms, his reaction time sucked compared to mine. For all of seconds I was a head, then he pulled head, and I couldn't catch him to save my life. I'll never live this down, I'm know as one of the best racers at my school, and to make things worse, he calms he was at full throttle. Any one else have any stories for the thread of shame?
sorta same.. well you gotta know your ride.. lol what it can an can't do and what i might do.. i have a 70 cougar. weld in frame connectors detroit locker 3:55's C6 stage 2 , bout 420 hp/tq. I was being stalked by a civic ( sicked on me from a friend at the parts store he knew it was over before it started ) i kept hearing this whistle .. behind me... couple blocks later i pay attention to a small white import.. i think.. hmm i'll make two rights.. if he follows i'll pull over .. so it happens and he fly's by me.. so i'm in. haha i follow him up to a long hill the road splits 2 lane's we're side by side he floors it i floor it. I"M screaming with 3 inch exhaust that are dumps... noise bouncing off the cement barrier. i pull away from him for ohhh.. probably 3 seconds and 2 car lengths then his huge Jebus turbo's ( 2 ) spool up and he's hitting 7 grand and all his noise is jamming in my left ear lol we're both sporting ***** eating grins as he goes past. later up the road we meet up an he tells me he's got 450+ hrs probably 5/8ths the weight and all the rpm he wants lol its a full on race import. I never had a chance. but was good for a laugh and chat when i talked to the friend that egged him on to race me for fun. so far only car i've not handled. but its always just a matter of time till someone beats you. Always the way.
There is always something faster out there, in fact there's usually lots of them!
I used to love handing a spanking to certain porshes when I had the supercharged 3.8L in the ranger. TOTAL sleeper. But I had to remember I ran out of gear at 85-90 so they'd catch up and fly by as I shut it down.
As the last guy said - just know what you are dealing with and what your truck/car can do.
When someone with a faster car than me would run their mouth I'd just say "you pick the time, but I'll pick the place"... Since the truck was lifted on 33's and build for the dirt I'd tell them 1st one to make it down Barstow main (start/finish area of the race course many desert racing sanctioning bodies use out here) and back wins. With 3-4' deep whoops their car would never make it
cruiseing in edmonton ab 1 day with my 78 f250 reg cab and the wife stock 460 with edelbrock carb/intake/ rv cam/headers/duels sitting at a light that goes onto a 80 khr freeway a little honda civic pulls up and starts gunning it and giving me "that look" told the wife to hang on well when i heard that turbo spool up i knew i was in trouble 5 g shifts 6 gears later [gearvender overdrive] and the speedo wraped to o and climbing in speed i beat him but not by much for my likeing before i decided to "back out of it" [wife already made finger indents in the dash and was a bit white] thats when i decided that wont happen again and my 500 hp/6250 rpm redline 501 stroker was built yes there will always be something faster but this old ford is still something to be reconed with
and surprizes the hell out of a lot of other drivers [love blowing by them on the highway when they are limited to 160 ks [100 mph] or so] punks with the dodge hemi pickups are my faverite

Some of those older Legacy's were quick. I worked for a service shop in around 96-97 that used a Legacy wagon for a service car - that thing wold flat get up and move, that was a fun car to drive would hate to have to do any service work to it, though...
My truck is fairly quick to jump off the line - but that's pretty much it... It was built for climbing mountains, not racing on blacktop...
Don't take it too hard, it happens to the best of us, don't let your ego get the best of you. There are always sleepers, there are always things faster than you. I mean hell, you're in a 5-6000lb pound brick with stock power...it's not really an ideal race rig. But eventually, we all grow up and realize street racing isn't that cool and very stupid. Don't get me wrong, I'll do some red light races, but never go much over the speed limit. Trying to test the limits of a relatively stock truck's top end is not only a stupid race move, but is a stupid traffic move.
Trucks arnt supposed to go fast...especially these trucks...they are heavy as **** and the aerodynamics suck. they where meant to do things like haul and tow...
im not trying to sound like an *** or anything but if you want to go fast buy a mustang or something.
Similar thing happened to me when I was 18. My 86 Mustang GT lost to an LT1 Camaro. My Mustang somehow had a reputation of being a quick car so that was a bit of a blow to that.
I wouldn't sweat it at all. Heck thats not even a fair race with you in a truck.
I don't care if I win or loose anymore. I think its still fun even if you loose. My cars, trucks, bikes are what they are. If someone else has something faster/better than hats off to them, doesn't make one difference to me.
A buddy of mine was racing his 79 F250 with 400 at the local dirt drags, he got paired up with a Subaru. He was winning untill the good ole Holley decided to take a poop and flood the engine. I don't have anything against Holleys but dang it seems that they Always mess up at the wrong time.
Nobody will ever leave him alone now since it happened in front of so many people, really sucks, lol.

Legacy and Legacy GT were/are every bit as quick as the WRX, and have a proven all-wheel drive system that has won a lot of rally racing. Fun to drive car, but I agree, wouldn't want to work on one.
