Concerns about SCT
Concerns about SCT
Im about to buy a tuner,, even talked to Eric. I'm certainly not questioning his tunes. I do believe you guys and thinks its the best. I"ve read many post along those line. But seems lately,,esp tonight,, all i read is questions about them.
I know that a truck with tunes is not gonna act like the daily driver I had. But reading about the loss of power and the tranny acting up, and how it does great with this tune but another problem with this one.
So which one should I get,, or do you get mutiple ones and you change them as you want?? Is the tranny slipping just a condition of the tune or a oncoming problem. i dont plan on drag racing,, matter of fact for the most part i drive like an old man. Having said that,, even i like to clean the tires up if someone is looking. And mostly for me,, its just cool for others to think you have a bad azz truck. I hardly ever tow anything,, but i guess i could.
I"m just not sure,, extreme street,, street,, race,,, man its confusing. And please dont get me wrong,, I believe Eric is a straight up guy but also he's a salemans and wants to see his product. I'd rather take you guys advice as to what i need. I dont care about mpg,, i want power,,least more than "super chips".. but honestly that hasnt caused me any problems.. sorry for the long post,, but i hope yall can see my questions. I really dont mind "different",, as long as different isn't problems. thanks.

Buy his package deal. 3 tunes. You said you dont tow. Buy his economy tune, street tune, and extreme street tune (could even buy extreme race but be prepared to upgrade headbolts, tranny ect...).
The reason you see lots of Innovative questions and problems is simply because tons of people run those tunes. There are no "other tuner" questions, because for the most part nobody uses "other tuners", if you know what i mean.
Trust me, you'll be happy with them.

he creates great tunes and is very easy to talk to and work with. i would let him know what you have done to your truck "modifications wise" and how you want it to drive and shift.
i agree with the 3 tune choice Motor-Man explained for the same reasons.

Got a buddy had an edge juice 2 trannys in 3000 miles he decided the guys on here might be right. Hes had sct for 20k prob still driving like its a porsche ALL the time hasnt broke anything yet. Ive had my sct for 3 weeks NO way Im giving it back. Good luck
I just got my Livewire from Eric installed this weekend. THe tunes are great, even the canned tunes are way way better than stock! Eric's tunes actually make the power more smoothly on my truck and the trans has a nice firm shift! I wouldn't even hesitate if I were you! I installed the Extreme Street and the turbo lag is gone, it's like having a gas truck when you take off. I was hesitant for about 1 year before I finally bought the tuner and tunes but that's because I was still under factory warranty............Now my truck has head studs and a few other things to make it more reliable! I don't race mine ar beat on it, in fact I don't really like puttin the hammer down unless I need to merge or pass! But who knows if a noisy little ricer pulls up??
I have Eric's street, xstreet, & race tunes. I love the race tune the best and would prefer it as a daily driver. However, from what i've read keeping the TC locked all the time can't be good. I notice the my trans slips a little on the xstreet and seems to shift firmer. Do yall know if Eric can make the equivalent Race tune without having to lock the TC? Or would that result in the xstreet tune?
Also, has anyone ever had cruise control issues while running these tunes. I went on a trip running the street tune. The problem wasn't consistent but when i would punch my cruise control the truck would lurch just like you had stomped the pedal for a split second. Has me a little concerned, anyone else ever experience such a thing?
To the original poster,
I agree the tuning thing can be a bit confusing...I still haven't settled on a daily driver, NOTHING shifts like stock... I don't really understand how the TC and tranny work well enough to know if the firm shifting is bad on it..is it? I flashed my truck back to stock (first time in about 6 months) and it feels like a slug but shifts like a dream....not real sure what to settle on.
Any input is always appreciated.

Lewis,
sometimes issues are not issues with what you think they are...
the tuner increases the demands on the whole system,
i.e. at stock levels things work well... but ask for more and the stock pieces may be running at max already, so you exceed the ability of some "pieces"
Guess you could think of it like this...
say your fuel supply (air) comes from the lungs...
works fine as long as you're walking around..
start running and your lungs no longer deliver like they used to
so there is a short supply of fuel (air) and you have to slow down...
tuners just ask more of the engine/tranny/etc... and let's you know if a part is just getting by when stock...
a chains weakest part is at the weakest link.. HTH
long story to say - I ain't giving up my sct !!!!

I noticed when in cruise its softer comming out of it by using the off button vs the brake, not to mention the almost 500 less rpms at 75mph (street canned). In town it seems to hunt once and awhile around 50ish likes to me ease into the pedal or it downshifts, prolly cause its turning so low. Ive only had it for 3 weeks ish so not an expert. Overall Im getting 2mpg better and pretty much over driving like a butthead with it, now I just smile and know if I dont want to passed or cut off It wont happen easily. Ya It makes you feel 19 again hehehhe
Lewis Racing, buy it and be happy with it. It totally changes the way you drive this thing. Jody tuned mine and I have very smooth shift points for all of my setting. You'll be very satisfied wth Eric's tunes.
