Superchips or Hypertech?

Hey guys i know most of you are big SCT guys and i think i will be sometime in the future but right now its not in the budget so please dont tell me to get and SCT.
right now im running a hypertech maxenergy. its the one that came with the truck so im not a devout hypertech guy. however a friend gave me a superchips cortex for one of my farm gas trucks but that truck is now dead so i have a new superchips that has the capability to tune my 2007 6.0L. i was wondering what your recommendations were regarding either the MaxEnergy or the Cortex.
thanks in advance!

Do I dare say it? No forget it...... I just got an SCT! Plug it in and go, see if you like it! Hopefully it tunes the transmission too!

I haven't priced SCT stuff in a while, so I'm kinda in the dark. I hear a lot of folks are having issues with the touchscreen devices. Not so much in the tuning, but in the actual operation of the device it self. On/off issues, and some touchscreen issues. I don't know what the Xcal3 costs, but I bet you could find a used Xcal2 for a reasonable price.

As for the other two, I would use neither. I had a HyperPAC on my rig initially, and it DID NOT like it. I ran it for several months before I started having issues. It did make good power, but it started doing some crazy stuff. RPMs would spike, and the tranny would slam into gear. Then, it wouldn't downshift, and if it got really cranky, it wouldn't start. I am not an expert, but from what I can gather, other programmers "trick" your truck's computer into making power by giving it false info. The SCT actually reprograms the computer itself. And transmissions LOVE the SCT. There is a reason it is the most recommended tuner. IMO it's not worth the risk. Be patient, save your $$, and do it right.

Heard the same things about the touch screen livewires...

And you are correct, the truck programming is the same on the older xCal2's....
Only thing about finding a used xCal2 is that most of us still love them
and won't give them up !!!! 120k HARD miles on mine so far...

but if someone has sold their truck.... maybe !

That's all well and good, but it could cost you in the long run. I was lucky that when I was able to ripped all my Hypertech stuff off I didn't have any permanent damage.
