A quick search answered my hp differences question. huh, imagine that! Not a bad little read if you wanna.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...-or-275hp.html

In it Cookie states that "The switch from 235 HP to 275 HP came at abut midyear in the 01 production run. An 8/2000 build date means you have a forged rod, 235 hp early 01. There's nothing at all unusual about it.

Further down he states that the mid year increase was for manuals only and that all '01 automatics were 250 hp.

So I guess Ford just made some tuning tweaks to get those different hp ratings? I'm very happy to have forged rods, but I also sure wouldn't complain about 275 hp from the factory.

The actual translation of all those acronyms reads like this:

"I'm a friggin' diesel for cryin' out loud, I don't need any of that catalytic hulabaloo BS emissions crap. I'm GREEN, just like my fuel!"

hmmm.. here's a little more from dieselmanns page
Sorry for getting off topic Robin.

In 1997 the horsepower was increased to 225 and the torque was increased to 480 ft/lbs.
Early 99 valve cover stickers were incorrect showing 250 HP. The engine was actually rated at 235 HP with all accessories installed.
The engines did develop 250 HP and 505 ft/lbs torque for automatic transmission and 275 HP and 520 ft/lbs torque for manual transmission in October 2000.
Engines with automatic transmissions were increased to 525 ft/lbs torque after January 02.

Since the chassis and body design of the Econoline left no room for an intercooler, they do not have the horsepower increases of the F-Series trucks built in 1998 (99 model year). The vans were also not equiped with a wastegated turbo.

F650/750 equiped with the PowerStroke are rated at 210 HP and 520 ft/lbs torque and are limited to 2600 RPM.

Pop the hood, and look up.
Curtis, I think that is somewhat of a rare sticker. I've looked at about a dozen trucks over the past week and none of them had a sticker on the underside of the hood. I'll keep looking though.

I ran my truck through emissions last week and the worker went straight to the passenger side valve cover to read the sticker. This is the first year they ever looked in that spot. I inquired as to what he was looking for (playing it cool...) and he replied that he was checking to see if a CAT was required. He said that was the only way to tell on these trucks. He said they just went through some recent training on diesel pickups because they are the most modified vehicles on the road these days.

I did not ask him about an underhood sticker because I didn't want to draw attention or add confusion. But I do have your photo (thank you) so I at least know what it looks like.

I know of at least one person around here that is going to be raiding the local salvage yard and pick up a non-OC valve cover for his Excursion.

Saaaaaaayyyyyy, since there are folks on here making stickers, I wonder......

Oh, no, that would be illegal, wouldn't it?

But I'll be those valve covers WILL be come valuable!

Very interesting detail is that the sticker says, further down, "This engine is OBD-II exempt".
