Emission Control System - Help Decipher Please
My truck came with a catalytic converter but I can't find any reference to it under the hood that actually says "catalyst" or "catalytic".
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I found this online a few moments ago....
ECM = electronic control module
TC = Turbocharger
DI = Direct Injection although normally DFI. for a gas powered vehicle DI is Distributor Ignition
CAC = Charge Air Cooler (intercooler)
EGR = exhaust gas recirculation
OC = Oxydizing Catalyst (Catalytic converter that controls CO and HC does not control NOX)
This came off a 6.0 sticker (EGR)
"OC" is your baby.

Thanks for the pic.
So, this explains why the 'technician' at the emission testing facility was trying to view my valve cover sticker. He must have been looking for the "OC". Too bad that part of the sticker is behind the IC pipe...

I think I have a photo somewhere of my sticker....I'll check and post back if I find it.
VPWR cracks me up. I bet there is a funny story there somewhere. The base words probably confused the heck out of everybody so they had to simplify the explanation.

I had to take the IC pipe off to take the pic.
I sent you an email just before starting this thread.
I wonder if there is any correlation with the color of the sticker. Your "OC" sticker is black where my 'non-OC' sticker is pinkish-red. I think my neighbor's valve cover is green but his truck is a 2000 model, non-cat.
Anyone else out there with any of these colors? If so, do you have a catalyst or not?

So far is looks like the different colors may determine the year?
Black=Early 99
Pink/Red=late 99
Green=2000
Orange=2001
???=2002
???=2003
Would still like to see the another photo of a cat sticker tho...
Robin and I each have a sticker that says 250 BHP. What does this stand for? Brake Horse Power? If so, what does that mean exactly? In Europe, doesn't Brake Horse Power mean the HP at the wheels? (vs at the crank).
Just curious......
